The original centre of the city was built on the confluence of the Calore and Sabato rivers and a short time ago Benevento has been expanded over the rivers.
During the sightseeing tour by bus we will see the Leproso bridge, built by the Romans, where the ancient Via Appia crosses Sabato river.
A stop at the Roman Traian’s Arch built in 114 A.D. to inaugurate the Traian street which passes under the Arch. The marble decorative works showing the victorious campaigns of the Emperor is well kept.
A walk along the main road and a visit to the church of Saint Sofia, built by the Long bards in the VIII century when Benevento at the height of its splendour was the main city of Long bards reign in south Italy.
A visit to the Samnite Museum, where pre-roman and roman finds found in the area of Benevento are kept: arms, jewels, buckles, funeral furnishing from different necropolis of the area.
Last stop is at the Roman theatre built under the reign of Adrian and enlarged by Caracalla in the III century.
