The palace constructed in 1738 at the request of Charles of Bourbon based on the design of A. Medrano, was conceived as a museum to exhibit the Farnese collection inherited by the king of Naples from his mother Elisabetta Farnese.
Today it preserves over 3000 paintings of the greatest artists in the history of Italian and European art from the 13th to the 18th century, the (china) porcelain collection, the armoury and various coin collections, glasses and tapestries.
The course of the visit includes the historic apartment and part of the enormous park that surrounds the palace. The visit must be booked in advance and groups must be composed of no more than 25 individuals.
