For the abundance and importance of its exhibits, the National Archaeological Museum of Naples is considered one of the most important museums in the world. The building, a museum since 1777, conserves the antiquities that come from Pompeii and Herculanum and material from other sites in Campania.

Particularly interesting is the collection of frescoes (frescos) and mosaics. The collection is rich with Greek - Roman sculptures that come from archaeological digs in the Phlegraean Area and from the Caracalla Thermae in Rome part of the Farnese Collection that Charles of Bourbon wanted in Naples.

On the first floor, is conserved the collection of Bronzes that come from the “Villa dei Papiri”, this suburbanHerculanum building was given this name because of the more than 2000 rolls of papyrus that were discovered inside the Villa that made up its library.

In the section dedicated to mosaics, we can admire the large mosaic which shows the Battle of Issus, between Alexander the Great and Darius the Persian, found in the House of the Faun in Pompeii.
