The crater of Solfatara is found within the boundries of the community of Pozzuoli, the largest of the the Flegraen Fields, it’s a tranquil volcano, but live from various minor activities. In its crater we can observer different sulfer emissions, the mofete, which gives the whole zone a characteristic odour.

It takes his name from the typical phase that its going through, in fact Solfatara which consist of steam emission that deposit sulphur and sulphites in geyser of carbon anhydride and mineral water, lakes of mud and very high temperatures.

The crater is a cavity with an oval shape 770 m. long and 580 m. wide that is almost at sea level.

From the main entrance you enter direct in the crater and you can walk around its entire perimeter, observing not only the typical volcanic activity, but also zones of Mediterranean shrues.
