Island in the Tyrrheanian Sea, the smallest one of the gulf islands, it is situated between the promontory of Capo Miseno and the island of Ischia at the western end of the Gulf of Naples.
It is of volcanic origin and is 91 m. at its highest point, it covers an area of 3,09 square km. It has a rugged and twisted coastline in which the beaches of Cirraccio and Ciracciello opens, along with the small port of Corricella with the beach called Chiaolella, a landing for fishing and pleasure boats.
The population of about 10.000 inhabitants, is concentrated in the town of Procida at the north-east end of the island stretching between Marina Grande and Chiaolella. Traditional island activities are agriculture (vineyards that produce fine wines, citrus fruits and vegetables), fishing and above all tourism favoured by the beautiful scenery and by the exceptionally mild year-round climate.
